Our team is advocating for businesses at the local and state level. Between our Leaders Roundtable, Government Affairs Committee, and our day to day work supporting businesses, we are committed to keeping you informed and convening leaders to advocate for the continued success of our region.

Government Affairs Committee Recap (July Meeting)

  • The Committee went through all of the propositions on the November ballot to determine what propositions they Chamber PAC would support, oppose, or take no stance on. Look for this information to be shared in the coming weeks.
  • Measure P is the local sales tax proposition for Fairfield. The committee will decide if they will take a stance on Measure P in their next meeting. Learn more about Measure P in our previous meeting with City Manager, David Gassaway.
  • Congressman Garamendi’s Office reported on emergency funding from the Department of Agriculture to combat the invasive glassy wing sharpshooters that could ruin crops.
  • Wanda Williams (Solano County Board of Supervisors) reported on how social, health, and workforce development services are carrying on while facing new federal requirements budget cuts for the year. More budget cuts may need to be implemented in the next year’s financial planning.

Leader’s Roundtable Recap (July Meeting)

The Leader’s Roundtable is a group of community leaders, who meet regularly at the Chamber to keep each other informed on what’s happening in their industry, and work together to better our region. Here are a the highlights from their July meeting:

Federal (Congressman Garamendi’s Office)

  • Prioritizing emergency funding to combat invasive glassy-winged sharpshooters and working on the Bipartisan Wildfire Response Act
  • Maritime Summit & Woman of the Year are still being planned. The Summit will take place in September, Woman of the Year in October

State Senate (Senator Cabaldon’s Office)

  • SB417 (Veterans Affordable Housing Fund Act) has been signed, dedicating $1.25 billion to provide 4,000 affordable homes for veterans, homeless, foster youth, and farmers should this bill be approved by voters.

State Assembly (Assemblywoman Wilson Office)

  • Proposition 2 (Save Our California Future Act) has been passed by legislature, and will be on the ballot;
  • AB1798 (genetic information privacy bill) advanced from committee
  • A post-retirement housing bill currently in appropriations.

Solano County (County Supervisor Wanda Williams)

  • Health, social services, and workforce development boards are adapting to new federal requirements
  • Budget adjustments are ongoing with further cost-saving measures anticipated.

Fairfield Fire Department

  • New partnership with Medic Ambulance starts on January 1, which will provide new job opportunities
  • Two new fire stations are under construction in Green Valley

Fairfield Economic Development

  • The 4th of July Parade in Fairfield saw 4500 attendees.
  • The Picklr & See’s Candies both celebrated their ribbon cuttings recently.
  • Measure P, which would impose a 2% sales tax is on the ballot
  • Measure Q, which would change the elected city clerk to a professional appointment is on the ballot.

Local Real Estate (NavigateRE)

  • Interest rates are projected to decrease by year’s end. Housing market is becoming streamlined, while new homes are increasingly using modular structures.

Local Real Estate (Wiseman Commercial)

  • Aurora housing project in Green Valley is now 100% occupied
  • Next development is at Blueridge near Solano Community College
  • Fairfield Pickleball Club raised $3,000 for the Fairfield Arch Restoration

Small Business Resources (SBDC)

  • Resilient Grants of up to $25k are available for businesses affected by the Anheuser-Busch closure
  • Solano Biz Grow program are offering low interest loans.

Travis Air Force Base

  • Leadership changes are occurring.
  • Congressional appropriations are needed for timely national defense funding.

Education: (FFUSD)

  • Free summer meals are available to those in need
  • Wellness resources and 24/7 support are available for students after the high school graduation shooting

Solano Transit Authority

  • Funds have been collected for the new Dixon express line project
  • Express Lanes have been reducing traffic congestion

Healthcare (NorthBay Health)

  • Touro University is raising scholarship funds due to federal student loan policy changes.
  • NorthBay is sponsoring a safe teen driver program.

Travel & Tourism (Visit Fairfield)

  • Reported $251 million in direct visitor spendings.
  • Fairfield Community Services hosting dinner event under downtown arch in September.

Solano Economic Development

  • Held the first manufacturing roundtable in Vacaville to foster manufacturing alliances.

City of Suisun Updates

  • The City held a very successful 4th of July event
  • A new ebike ordinance goes into effect in August
  • New businesses include Dutch Brothers, Ross, dental/wellness center, and the reopening of Walmart
  • 16 new townhomes and a new apartment complex are being built in Suisun
  • Work is being done to get approval to develop the 34 acre plot near the water tower

Our Leaders Roundtable meets monthly to better connect the leaders of different industries in our community.
