Government Affairs Committee Recap (August Meeting)

  • The Committee went through all of the statewide propositions on the November ballot to determine what propositions the Chamber would support, oppose, or take no stance on. Look for this information to be shared in the coming weeks.
  • The committee did not have time discuss local measures, like Measure P. There is still time to provide input on how your business is thinking about Measure P. Please fill out this quick survey. Survey results help our committee determine whether to vote yes, no, or stay neutral on important issues like measure p.

Leader's Roundtable Recap (August Meeting)

The Leader's Roundtable is a group of community leaders, who meet regularly at the Chamber to keep each other informed on what's happening in their industry, and work together to better our region. Here are a the highlights from their July meeting:

Federal (Congressman Garamendi's Office)

  • Introduced the American Food for American Schools Act, which would ensure only American-sourced foods are served in American schools.
  • The Maritime Summit will take place in September, and reservations are nearly sold out.
  • The Woman of the Year event will take place on October 23, with nominations currently open.

State Senate (Senator Cabaldon's Office)

  • The Legislature is in the final stages of its current session.
  • A newsletter was recently sent highlighting current bills and legislative activity.

State Assembly (Assemblywoman Wilson's Office)

  • Monitoring AB 431 (Air Mobility), AB 1621 (Planning), AB 1731 (Farm to Fork), and AB 1798 (Life Insurance) ahead of their August 31 review.

Fairfield Fire Department

  • Finalizing a countywide EMS contract with Medic Ambulance, which will be rebranded as Solano MNS and is expected to begin in 2027.
  • The department is working to hire nine new firefighters to help reduce overtime.
  • A new fire station is projected to open as early as November.

Fairfield Economic Development

  • Addressing data center inquiries for Area 6, with economic and environmental review ongoing.
  • The sale of the Anheuser-Busch facility is in its final stages, with a non-brewery manufacturer expected to purchase the property.
  • The City of Fairfield is developing an arts marketing plan for the Downtown Theatre.

Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce

  • Shifting the Roundtable's focus toward community and business resiliency is a goal moving forward.
  • The Best of Buzz Awards red carpet show will take place October 9 at the Fairfield Hilton. Nominations and voting are currently open across 80 categories.
  • August has been the busiest month for Farmers Market foot traffic.

Local Real Estate (Wiseman Commercial)

  • The Commerce Cup pickleball tournament will take place October 24.
  • Free clinics hosted by the Fairfield Pickleball Club will continue through September for those interested in participating.
  • A B4 Event fundraiser supporting Travis Airmen will take place September 12 at the Roland Freedom Center in Vacaville.
  • The Travis AFB Gala will take place September 26 at Travis Air Force Base.
  • The Commanders Welcome will take place October 20 at the Jelly Belly Factory.

Education (FF-SUSD)

  • Approximately 19,000 students are enrolled for the school year.
  • The Back to School Resource Fair served more than 2,000 people.
  • A college fair will take place September 1 at Rodriguez High School, with approximately 40–50 colleges from around the country expected to attend.
  • A diaper giveaway is scheduled for August 22.
  • Construction at Armijo High School is nearing completion.

Healthcare (NorthBay Health)

  • Touro University is seeing an increase in class enrollment.
  • A new cancer center is expected to open in early 2027.
  • NorthBay is studying healthcare worker housing affordability and the impact of new medical requirements under HR1.

Workforce Development

  • Fairfield continues to face challenges with job sustainability.
  • Grants are available for businesses impacted by the Budweiser closure.
  • Changes are coming to SBDC programming in October.

Travel & Tourism (Visit Fairfield)

  • Working with the City of Fairfield to market Restaurant Week, which begins October 11.
  • The Vine to Table auction dinner is coming to downtown Fairfield. Tickets will be available soon and typically sell out.

Solano Economic Development

  • The June manufacturing roundtable was successful, bringing together 11 manufacturers.
  • The next roundtable is scheduled for October 21 and will focus on workforce challenges.

City of Suisun Updates

  • Recovery efforts from the recent cyber attack are ongoing.
  • The summer Jazz Series concludes August 23.
  • Movies in the Park will take place September 11.
  • Fedora Lounge is now open.
