“Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District is a premier learning community
that empowers each student to thrive in an ever-changing world.”

Dear Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Parents,

On March 13, 2020, the District had to make the very difficult decision to close our facilities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, we thought we would be closed for two weeks. Little did we know we would be ending the year with our facilities closed to our students and families.

As we near the close of the 2019/20 school year, families have many questions regarding what school will look like when we return for the 2020/21 school year. Over a month ago, the District organized a very large committee to develop tiered plans responsive to the guidelines from the State of California and Solano County Public Health. If the last ten weeks have taught us anything, it is that conditions change rapidly. Our plans need to be fluid as we make necessary adjustments and protect the health and safety of our staff, students, and community.

We have received guidelines which we believe will be in place in August. In working with these guidelines, we anticipate providing some type of blended educational model next year. A blended educational program means that students will spend part of their week in classrooms with their teachers and part of the week in a distance learning environment.

The District is interested in receiving your feedback regarding the guidelines set forth by the State of California and the Center for Disease Control as it relates to the school environment when children return to the classroom. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey: https://bit.ly/2TXZchU. Your feedback will help guide the work of the District as we prepare for the 2020/21 school year.

Many families have voiced their interest in having students return to the classrooms. Other families have indicated they want to maintain a full-time distance learning program until such time when they feel their children are safe to return to school. During the May 21, 2020 Governing Board meeting, the Board took action to open a new K-8 Virtual School for students who live in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District. If you are interested in registering your child for the K-8 Virtual School, please complete the registration form at https://bit.ly/2U1DIAN. If your student is in 9th - 12th grade, your child can sign up for long-term Independent Study for the 2020/21 school year. If interested in this option, contact the high school principal in your area of attendance.

These are very uncertain times. Staff is diligently working to create fluid plans that are responsive to the needs of our community. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s educational opportunities, please reach out to your site principal so they can address your concerns.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate through these unprecedented times in public education.

    Sincerely,
    Kris Corey
    Superintendent
